Main Categories of Aluminum

For aluminum, there are generally pure aluminum and aluminum alloys, so there are two categories of aluminum: pure aluminum and aluminum alloys.

(1) Pure aluminum:

Pure aluminum is divided into three categories according to its purity: high-purity aluminum, industrial high-purity aluminum and industrial pure aluminum. Welding is mainly done with industrial pure aluminum. The purity of industrial pure aluminum is 99. 7%^} 98. 8%, and its grades include L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, and L6.

(2) Aluminum alloy

Aluminum alloy is obtained by adding alloying elements to pure aluminum. According to the processing characteristics of aluminum alloys, they can be divided into two categories: deformed aluminum alloys and cast aluminum alloys. Deformed aluminum alloy has good plasticity and is suitable for pressure processing.

The main aluminum alloy grades are: 1024, 2011, 6060, 6063, 6061, 6082, 7075

Aluminum Grade

1××× series is: pure aluminum (aluminum content is not less than 99.00%)

2××× series are: aluminum alloys with copper as the main alloy element

3××× series are: aluminum alloys with manganese as the main alloying element

4××× series are: aluminum alloys with silicon as the main alloying element

5××× series are: aluminum alloys with magnesium as the main alloying element

6××× series are: aluminum alloys with magnesium as the main alloy element and Mg2Si phase as the strengthening phase.

7××× series are: aluminum alloys with zinc as the main alloy element

8××× series are: aluminum alloys with other elements as main alloying elements

9××× series is: spare alloy group

The second letter of the grade indicates the modification of the original pure aluminum or aluminum alloy, and the last two digits indicate the grade. The last two digits of the grade identify different aluminum alloys in the same group or indicate the purity of the aluminum.

The last two digits of 1××× series grades are expressed as: the percentage of the minimum aluminum content. The second letter of the grade indicates the modification of the original pure aluminum.

The last two digits of the 2×××~8××× series grades have no special meaning and are only used to distinguish different aluminum alloys in the same group. The second letter of the grade indicates the modification of the original pure aluminum.
